Sadly, Microsoft is ceasing NNTP support (that's the protocol used by newsgroup servers) and trying to close all microsoft.public.* newsgroups. If you've been using the msnews.microsoft.com server then you'll see that they're removing newsgroups en masse. They'll soon close down the server altogether if they haven't already. Since the newsgroups are replicated to thousands of other servers, the microsoft.public.* newsgroups will never really die until the very last message is posted and folks stop reading them. The majority of questions and answers, though, came through the msnews.microsoft.com server and Microsoft had active filters to remove spam messages. This made them very valuable. Other news server hosts don't do as much spam filtering and before long all the microsoft.public.* newsgorups will overflow with spam, trolls and very off-topic subjects. In their place, Microsoft is encouraging folks to use its new web forums <http://answers.microsoft.com> for Windows products. Mac products are still a separate forum. 90% of the messages in the Entourage newsgroup were coming from the Mactopia forum but t's no longer syncing to the newsgroups anymore. However, the web interface is so poorly designed that it doesn't make browsing questions and answers easy. The Answers forum is maybe a step above that. No one knows yet if they'll remain separate or if they'll merge. -- William Smith -- YouTalk mailing list List information: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/support_options/list.html List moderator: [email protected], [email protected] To unsubscribe: mailto:[email protected]?subject=unsubscribe
