Diane, It is an automater script and it is now in my Entourage Scripts folder. I do not let the Time Machine run on its own. I decide when it is time to run a back. Just before starting the TM, I click on the quit_all_Microsoft_applications under the scripts menu and it closes all Office stuff. It works great and to double check I opened the Activity Monitor to look for Office stuff. Nothing there and the TM backup was uneventful.
BTW, I now have the MBP running with the Fast Switch and like you and Nadyne said it works pretty nice. I have my Entourage running under my identity and my wife's under her identity.
