And yet
Shorten has been replaced by Flac. Hey here’s a little software that’s
just getting started. It’s a front end for shn (shorten) Flac, ape and
mkw. It comes with flac and ape built in and you have to install ape to gain it’s
functionality. It also handles MD5, flac fingerprints, shntool and all other
checksum files. All this built into one handy user interface. It only decodes
for now but encoding is coming in future versions. It already can make all the
checksum files as well as check them. It’s the windows equivalent of xACT
for the Mac.

NEW VINE - GTO'S - PERMANENT DAMAGE- APE FORMAT W/ARTWORKS
It works fine on that one.
For Mac users it's a better program than MacFlac and CarbonShorten as
it does the job of both in one.
It might be MKW that is the problem for Mac's. I've never tried to use
them, never come across any really, most stuff comes in Flac or Shn format.

Have you tried it? I might have
been mixing up ape and mkw or whatever that fourth format is called. Try it on
this little one.
Get a program called ' xACT' (x Audio Compression Tool)
It works a treat for FLAC SHN and APE
xACT stands for X Audio
Compression Toolkit. It is a GUI based front end (written in AppleScript
Studio) for the unix applications Shorten (3.5.1), shntool (2.0.3), monkey's audio
compressor (3.99),flac (1.1.1) and cdda2wav 2.01a32(with paranoia support). It
also uses a modified md5sum (modified from 2.1 textutils) and sox (12.17.7). It
does the basic commands of these applications and adds a few features to speed
up productivity in creation of etree.org standard filesets.

Where does
one find a free download of this APE shit? (no pun intended - come to think of
it, that's pretty funny, so yeah pun intended) I assume it's out there for free
somewhere?
You should
fill us in on this John. I may be a day or two slow, but I'm not living under a
rock and I have never heard of this format until just now...
Tell us
what's up wi'dat!

Frank Zappa - Producer
Lowell George - Producer
Sparky (Sparkie Parker) -
Composer
David Jones - Composer
Frank Zappa is widely believed to have
created the GTOs as an experiment, like a joke band. They played live
with the Mothers of Invention, and
GTO stood for lots of things, including:
Girls Together Outrageously,
GirlsTogether
Occasionally, Girls Together Only, and Girls Together Often.
Their only album is 'Permanent Damage,'
released in 1969, and later
reissued in 1989.
