Dear Merle, Lovely, lovely!; wonderful art. Bless your heart. A good bit of it puts me in mind of native Australian art, but there is more to it, Merle, I see. There may be an iconography that I'm not completely aware of, but it seems you have understood it and diversified it and not merely copied it. I say, "Kudos"! And... thank you. You have made it your own, and now made it ours, too.
I myself have just taken up painting, in oils mostly, but with some Acrylic underpainting, mostly landscapes so far to start. I want to do portraits. And some abstract things. I have the time now because I am a recently retired scientist (Astronomer). I still teach Buddhist Yoga and Ch'an meditation, to be true to promises I made to my teachers, but I find myself with generous wells and wellsprings of time and inspiration, and you and your work are some of that latter. Thank you! I've practiced with John Tarrant Roshi a bit -- who hails from Tasmania-- while he was here in Tucson (he's based in California), but mostly with other Ch'an and Zen teachers, in New York City and in Tucson, plus a few in South America (Chile). I want to hook-up with a few painting teachers in Tucson: I have never yet had a studio class. I think most of my life is still AHEAD of me. What do you think about that? I think painting opens lives, going far into the future. I am not a Buddha, and I think I hafta come back many, many times, as this same simple Bodhisattva, for the fun of it for me and for others (looking forward). ;-) Many blessings, and strong practice of all kinds and on all fronts, dear. Love, and best wishes; practice, practice, practice, and practice, and, OK, practice. I won't say practice again. --Joe PS I am a woodworker and build furniture and other temple fittings for Ch'an and Zen temples. I also make Rakusu rings, kyosakus, etc. I'm out there on the Web under those key-words, I think. Mostly, I make sawdust; just ask my Carol. ;-) --- In [email protected], Merle Lester <merlewiitpom@...> wrote: > > hi joe..here is another clip > check out my website...i do my "zen practise"through my art.... cheers merle > > Merle > www.wix.com/merlewiitpom/1 ------------------------------------ Current Book Discussion: any Zen book that you recently have read or are reading!
