PS I'm glad I never learned to smoke. Whenever someone offered me a
cigarette, I usually accepted, say, in college, anyway. I always choked, and
my friend or new acquaintance would laugh. I've lost too many friends to
smoking, and one Zen master. At one time, I remembered how I sometimes liked
the smell of (distant) pipe smoke, so I bought a small pipe in New York near
the college and a bag of Cherry flavored tobacco blend, which smelled so nice
through the bag. I brought them to my dormitory and had at it. After a week
of half-hearted "conditioning" of the pipe, and my taste buds, I set the pipe
aside. I wasn't convinced this was for me. The smoke didn't taste quite as
nice as the tobacco smelled in the bag, or as the dilute smoke smelled in the
air. I had a visit from a friend, who saw my pipe in the ashtray. He said, "I
didn't know you SMOKE, man!" And I said, "Oh, yeah, that stuff in the bag over
there; just trying it". He said, "And why are you using a HASH-PIPE to smoke
THIS stuff? So I had bought a hash-pipe, and didn't know it. I *had* asked
for something "small", thinking that would be better for my health, overall.
Those were the days. My pipe was not a pipe, either, Bill!
