Bill!,
A lot of people give or used to give a lot of credence at first blush to D. T.
Suzuki, in his popularization of the Zen tradition(s). Granted, he wrote
almost exclusively of the Rinzai sect, and almost not at all about the Soto,
nor the other three remaining schools.
We need put no weight on TITLES of books; nor sometimes even credibility in the
contents of books. But there's a small and unusual book by D. T. Suzuki with a
title, and contents, which are suggestive, or tantalizing (or taunting; you be
de Judge!).
;-)
Suzuki, Daisetz Teitaro; MYSTICISM: CHRISTIAN AND BUDDHIST (1957).
He wrote this while he was living in New York and lecturing uptown at my Alma
Mater, Columbia.
Dover has an inexpensive edition out, still in print since 2002.
