Oh, but the exercise; the fun!  The adventure.

Not to be ruled out (as motivation).

And, the tree is right THERE.

As it was in my childhood.

And my ex- sweetums used to sleep up there, several States away, before we ever 
fatefully met.

Everest takes a bit more planning.  And you have to hire Sherpas!

Main thing is what we realize during or after our outing.  We can't THEN say 
what was "necessary".  Sometimes things "take" (require) doing things.
