Yeah, this idea is in mind. Emilio talks about profiles with http & https,
but a layer 4 load balancing with lvs is planned to be implemented.
On september we'll start that project.

for a lot of applications individual server (even when load balanced) need
to know the real ip adress of the client (instead of the LB itself)
i found this tutorial for implementing such a method with haproxy:

as comparaison (even if it's a commercial product) i used to work with F5
BIGIP LB and the way they load balance preserve the ip adress of the client
