Hey,

It been a while back since we last used vmware ESXi, but from our experience
the e1000 always had issues in there (including dropping packets in windows).
Now we mostly countered WINDOWS issues with this BUT the fix usually meant
disabling TCP chimney - large send offloading, etc etc ( AND loading the newest
drivers rather than using the build in stuff.

So my advice, get the real drivers, tweak the advanced settings of the driver -
your answer is in there somewhere.

Regards,
Marco

Onderwerp: Re: [Zenloadbalancer-support] slowness with zen on vmware esxi

Hi guys.

I detected that the problem only happen on vware esxi 4.0, I changed the
network driver to e1000 and vmnetx but the problem follows, like James
commented on vware esxi 5.0 all is working fine.

Some idea masters of vmware?

This problem is breaking my head! I know that It is a issue between vmware and
the Linux kernel solved on esxi v5 like the tests show, but I would like find
some explanation

Regards!

I have tested zen lb on VMware ESXi 5.0 and did not experience any of the
slowness you mentioned. The web interface and ssh connections were very
responsive as well as the DNS service I was load balancing.

Subject: [Zenloadbalancer-support] slowness with zen on vmware esxi

Hi all.

I would like ask to the list about zen lb working on vmware technology. Some
user wrote me about problems with vmware esxi, the problem is:

Slowness on the entire operative system for tasks with the network, we detected
slowness on ssh connections, https connections or any connections that work
over network. The operative system are working fine, and there isn't resources
(load, cpu or memory) with a high use, also detected that there is no slowness
if you connect over vmware vhsphere. I detected that the problem is on some
TCP/IP values that we modify on the kernel.

on /etc/sysctl.conf the next value:

net.ipv4.tcp_tw_recycle = 1 cause the problem, by default on v2rcX

net.ipv4.tcp_tw_recycle = 0 there is no problem

Trying of solve the problem we modified the driver that vmware configure by
default for linux (e1000) with vmxnet3, and installed the vmwaretools but the
problem follow.

I know that the problem is on the network virtualization that make vmware, but
I don't know how It could be solved

Some idea?, other member of the list detected the same problem with vmware or
other virtualization architecture?

Regards!
