Dave,
It could be a few things.
I'd check the following:
1. Does your firewall allow https access to that virtual ip? Can you ping the
virtual ip? Can you telnet on port 443? This will test access on this new ip.
2. Does the zen https farm interface show that both of the servers are up?
3. Are your 2 real servers using Sao to encrypt the data? This isn't usually
necessary behind a firewall and behind the load balancer ... But doesn't solve
your 500 errors.
Overall your setup looks ok. As for your certificate ... You only need the one
you already have for the domain. You may need to append the intermediate certs
from your cert provider.
