We are allowing these servers to use the default VHID value of 1 as we have
created a nic via VMware for each server that is only for the cluster traffic.
The nic and subinterfaces for the farms and management are under ETH0 and then
ETH1 only has the IPs we setup for cluster communication.
We are running the current version of VMWare tools on both servers.
Both servers are setup to get time via NTP from one of our domain controllers
and are verified to have the exact same time - is that what you mean when you
say "ensure that sync time is working fine" ?
Thanks,Kevin

Subject: Re: [Zenloadbalancer-support] Farm VIP stops responding

Use different vhid values for the cluster, ensure that vmware tools are
correctly installed and working fine, ensure that sync time is working fine.

Hello, we are running 3.03 in VMWare 5.5 environment. We have had multiple
clustered load balancers with this issue of the VIP not responding. We would
normally see it when there was a conflict between server pairs using the same
UCARP mac due to a reboot. To work around this we setup a vlan just for the
cluster-communication... so for this cluster, all cluster-traffic is on it's
own vlan between the cluster-nics on each server. We thought that would
resolve the issue but we again had the issue of the vip not responding and to
get it back up we put the active server in failover-mode, then the backup comes
up for all interfaces and routes fine.

The only event we see in any of the logs at the time of the issue is in the
ucarp log:
ucarp[2906]: [WARNING] Non-preferred master advertising: reasserting control of
VIP with another gratuitous arp

We see that message 3 times withing the same timestamp and that's when the VIP
stopped communicating... we saw it repeated again 3 more times about 22mins
later before we did the failover manually.

Any help on this?
Thanks,
Kevin.
