Thanks for the reply to be more specific here is an example of my setup.
Two physical network interfaces eth0 and eth1
eth0 for sake of conversation is 1.1.1.1
eth0:0 is a virtual ip and is 1.1.1.2
these both use a netmask of 255.255.248.0
eth1 is 2.2.2.2
and has a netmask of 255.255.255.248
I have one l4xNAT farm setup, it uses the virtual ip of 1.1.1.2 (eth0:0)
this farm has three backend servers
2.2.2.3
2.2.2.4
2.2.2.5
these backends have their gateway set to 2.2.2.2 (eth1)
protocol type is set to tcp
NAT type is DNAT
it uses a weight algorithm and ip persistence
the farm is also only specified to use ports directly related to mail services
so 25,110,143 and so on.
Now when I run a port scan on eth0:0 it only returns two ports 22 and 444 (ssh
and the ZLB GUI). If I set the farm to NAT and run a port scan then it returns
the specified ports (25,110,143).
Why does DNAT not allow the specified ports (25,110,143) to be scanned. Also
when using DNAT my mail client is unable to send or receive mail.
