It might happen a fair amount with people using NAS and SAN as storage.
It works well for us.
I did manage to get the upgrade done.. I had to fiddle with permissions.
The big thing was that I had to go back to the untarred installer file & change the owner & group from user 500 (edahl in the TAR file.. I wonder who that is?) and group Zenoss, which was users in the tar file., to zenoss:zenoss After that I only got an error telling me that the zenoss directory existed, rather than an error about the script not being able to remove the directory. Once I finally got all the issues sorted out.. it installed & migrated perfectly, and it's all up & running right.

Some comments:
I very much like the new methods for creating filters! Hooray! =D
The new method for displaying events has a lot more information. The older method made distinction of UP or DOWN was much more obvious visually. (although having more info at at glance is not a BAD thing!) I'm honestly not sure which I like better. The default Mib's built into the system don't seem to show up in the Mib's section. It would be nice to see what they are. I still can't find a way to edit the templates for particular devices. (that might be an RTFM thing) The NETWORKS items seem to be much faster (you might remember a mention of problems I had with that.)

I really need to figure out how to add custom MIBS and such.. so I should get to reading the new manual!

Cheers,

I am curious as to why it would try to remove $ZENHOME
My $ZENHOME is a mounted share, and it would not be fun to have to unmount it, run the install, copy all the data and then re-mount it. :/

I know why. It's because I never thought there would be a case where the parent directory wasn't writable by the installing user.
