Make sure you do NOT have Zenoss-Plugins installed. In my situation, I had the
Zenoss-Plugins RPM installed also. It had created
/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/zenoss which ended up in the python path.
When zenmodeler tried to run and import zenoss.cmd it would fail because it was
actually finding the zenoss under /usr/lib/... instead of the one under
/opt/zenoss. Removing the Zenoss-Plugins package (and the residual directory
tree under /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages) fixed the problem.

Comment:

I just installed a fresh copy of zenoss-1.0.2 (from source, using the
install.sh method) on FC5 and am experiencing the same problem when adding
devices with the same symptoms. If there's anything I can do to help
troubleshoot this problem, please don't hesitate to contact me (leffadamb at
gmail dot com).
