on my linux vmware guests i enable time sync with vmware, (edit the vmx
file and set the time sync option to true) disable ntpd (on the guest
os), and if the problem continues, then add a cron job for manuel
updating time (like "0-59/10 * * * * ntpdate pool.0.ntp.org")

that works very well on our systemes.....

IF the ntpd is running the guest os bounces araound the clock like no
other monkey :-)


I think you have to install the VMWare Tools first.  See the VMWare
docs for more info.
