Well I figured it out and hopefully this helps others..... Once you're under the settings for your alert setup and you try to add a filter from the drop down box of filters and it does not show up after clicking on the filter, what I did was hit refresh....
Once I refreshed the page, I went and clicked on the filter I wanted to add from the drop down box and it worked that time... after the refresh. I had this same problem with the dashboard. Everything on the dashboard was working great. Then one day I loaded my zenoss page and the dashboard did not show. I clicked on refresh, and BAM, the dashboard appeared....
