zensocket was already set up as suid:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] bin]# ls -la zensocket
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 7240 Nov 14 15:20 zensocket

What finally got me going was a reboot - for other reasons. I updated the
kernel yesterday, rebooted - and zenoss came right up without a problem.
