You have to use Python 2.4. Zenoss will not work with 2.5. I suggest
getting some help with installing an optional version of Python from the
SUSE support/python support, or not using SUSE.
If you are not used to hacking SUSE, it would be far easier to install
CENTOS5.1 and use that + the provided RPMs to install.

Hi @all,
I would like to install zenoss on a box running opensuse 10.3. Actually I had
it up running already, but there seem to be some problems. I am installing it
on a dedicated machine... Doing a new installation wont be a problem if
required..
There are some details I dont understand about the installation process:
First of all, there is a tarball at the download section for opensuse 10.2 which I
download and tried to use, but I keep getting the error message "python 2.3 or 2.4
required" when executing ./install.sh. (actually python 2.5x is installed, cause
there is no other version available through yast software management and I dunno how to
install an older version of it)...
So I used the "install from source" manual and I guess "svn co
http://dev.zenoss.org/svn/trunk/inst zenossinst" downloads a working python version with the
other stuff...
But is the version installed this way (I think it was 2.1.72) a stable version
or some kind of devel-version?
Why is there a tarball at all if the manual tells to download from "trunk"
anyway?
Ok.. so I used ./install.sh and it put everything in place. Another confusing
thing for a newbie like me would be that the manual (install from source) tells
how access to the webportal is done before telling me how to start zenoss
deamons...
So I start the services but when I do "/usr/local/zenoss/bin/zenoss status" only the
first two deamons are running. However if I do "ps uaxw | grep zenoss" I see that all
zenoss services are running... Why is that?
And to make it even more confusing, when I do "zenoss stop" it looks like it is stopping
all services one by one, but afterwards the same services as before are running when "ps uaxw
| grep zenoss" is done. Can someone please explain? Is it possible that the starting/stopping
skript does for some reason not recognize the services and leaves them running...?
I havent looked around on the web interface for long due to this issues I want
to solve first hand, but already encountered 3 problems:
1. When I go to device list, it tells me "loading..." but nothing happens, like
process has hung up..
2. when I go to events I get a browser window error message telling me there is "no
connection to the server", however some events show up.
3. Everything is dead slow even though I am on the same switch as the linux
machine running zenoss (using windows with IE7 to connect to web interface)..
Linux machine has 512 mb ram and is running a pentium 4...
Tanks for any help!
