I took a different route that is working for me.

In the /Devices/FileSystem section I clicked on the Templates tab to alter the
default templates for all file systems. I added additional thresholds that
trigger different alert levels. I copied the default Threshold of 90% in order
to get an idea of the metrics I wanted. In my case, I added an 85% (warning),
altered 90% (error), and added 95% (critical). I also went into the
Utilization graph definitions and added threshold Graph Definitions, again
modeled after the one that was already in there.

Once completed everything immediately applied and any devices that encountered
my altered thresholds for disk utilization triggered the appropriate events.
