Thanks for your response Daviz! Unfortunately I'm still pretty confused. About
this in particular I mean :)

I did try messing around with the ethermacsd template but had no luck - to
honest I'm not sure what I should even be doing to it.

Anyway, in answer to your questions:

The template is rather unimaginatively called "interface test". When you ask
where I added it I'm assuming you're asking which class of devices I added it
to? If so, I just added it under the /Device class. So when I'm looking at this
template the path in the upper left-hand corner of the console reads:
"/Devices/Templates/interface test"

Here are the basics of the template:

 Data Sources:

    Name: Source: Source Type: Enabled:
 ifAdminStatus 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.7 SNMP True
 ifOperStatus 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.8 SNMP True

 Thresholds:

     Name: Type: Data Sources:
Severity: Enabled:
 interface down MinMaxThreshold
Critical True

 Name interface down
 Data Points ifAdminStatus
                        ifOperStatus
 Min Value 1
 Max Value 1
 Event Class /Perf/Interface
 Severity Critical
 Escalate Count 0
 Enabled True

Any assistance that anyone could lend at this point would be very much
appreciated.

Forgive my ignorance - I'm completely new to working with network monitoring
tools as anything other than a NOC monkey - but at this point I'm pretty much
stumped by template writing. I haven't found any documentation, tutorials, or
further information of any kind on the concepts behind templates and how to
write them. Is there any such resource to be found anywhere? Thanks to all in
advance! [/img]
