How about reduce how often it polls? You can change the zProperty for the device or the class. By default it is every 60 seconds. You can increase both the frequency of checking as well as the expected time out in the zProperties.
I have this issue when I use Nagios plugins and have to throttle back the polling frequency and expected timeout.
