I attempted to configure Zenoss to monitor the bacula-dir IP Service and it
didn't work out so well. As soon as I started monitoring it, the Bacula
director started sending messages about connection errors.

It appears that Bacula's director daemon expects a 2 package message, with the
first package indicating the size of the second package as a 4 byte integer.
Fortunately, there's a special message I can send to indicate there is no
second package, unfortunately, that message is 4 null characters in a row. I
don't think I can enter that particular message in the "Send String" section of
the monitored service instance.

I know I can monitor the process instead, but frankly the existence of the
process doesn't guarantee that the process isn't deadlocked or similarly unable
to respond.

So does anyone have any experience with monitoring a Bacula service with
Zenoss? And if so, did you ever figure out how to monitor the director as an
IP Service without disabling Bacula's out-bound emails?
