I believe you could use some scripts + ssh to read out info, or you
could make your own SNMP plugin. I don't use Zenoss for
software/inventory information, having already deployed and found OCSNG
somewhat easier to set up for that.

Hi folks,
I've been playing around with Zenoss for a number of days and reading the
manual (yes actually READ both the Admin and User manuals) and while I have
things setup on 5 different servers and it's importing data I want to do a
little more.
One of the things I want to do is keep an updated list of software we have
installed on the server with the version numbers etc. I currently have a cron
script on our servers that export this data to a file, but is there a way that
Zenoss can get version numbers, or read the file and parse it?
I've been reading on the Net-SNMP also, and really haven't found information on
using SNMP to parse a file and obtain version info etc.
I know I can create custom fields on the server and insert the data etc, but automation
and verified "up to date" information is so much better to deal with.
Does anyone have any guides or direction on where I can go to read more on
doing something like this? An example would be great, but I'm fine reading
docs too. I've gone through the forum here, i've been searching all over
google, but nothing returning for me.
Currently using CentOS and RedHat on most of our servers. Appreciate any help.
