Perhaps the Device Event Suppression tip will work for you from the recent Tip of the Month: http://blog.zenoss.com/2009/05/27/tip-of-the-month-event-suppression/ Because not every daemon is topology aware yet (several defects related to this), you may need to use these event suppression techniques.
