Both setting the uuid type to 1 and running rngd failed to solve the problem.
I finally broke down, did the right thing, and created a stress script. What I found is that I can not cause the problem to occur if the events are created by xmlrpc. Using REST, though, I can create the problem with 10 parallel processes creating ten events each. Sadly, this is a realistic scenerio for me right now. The following patch is my latest attempt at a fix for this.
