Ok, I got it working with Network Manager in Ubuntu. The problem is
that the xxx-client.conf file generated by EBox does not mention
anything regarding LZO compression. It seems on the EBox it is turned
on, but Ubuntu takes the default as off if not specified.

The fix (on Ubuntu):

After importing the xxx-client.conf file in network-manager, click on
the Advanced tab, then tick "Use LZO data compression".

Is it possible that the EBox/Zentyal could specify LZO compression in
the xxx-client.conf file? Or must this be set on the client machine?

Despite all the other methods mentioned, using network-manager is an
easier way, since I need to connects to more than one VPN site for
remote support, and only when necessary, so I don't want automatic
connections that are always on. No I can click on network-manager and
start/stop VPN connection as required.

Charl
