that’s the impression i was getting from the host strings- it had just been a 
long day [of banging my head against the wall- chasing an actual valgrind issue 
on default- and this one].

the kicker was, the czmq stuff builds (zbeacon, etc). and that’s what threw me 
off- till i started narrowing down the diff in vm’s (all the way down to the 
compile flags).

turns out- `ifconfig` saves the day (*face-palm*)

thanks for this- i’ll fiddle with it see if i can get it working (and maybe a 
test for broadcast that highlights the underlying issue and STDOUTs something 
useful..)
