EC 'manipulated' delimitation of constituencies: PT

Coimbatore, Mar 19: Accusing the Election Commission of 'manipulating'
delimitation of constituencies in its draft list, depriving voting
rights to Dalits, Puthiya Tamizhakam (PT) today sought re-enumeration
of their population across India, particularly in Tamil Nadu, based on
2001 census.

All the seven reserved parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu, in
the draft, come in northern parts of the state, PT president Dr K
Krishnasamy told reporters adding the south, central and western parts
have been meted out injustice and lacked proper geographical
representation.

This was against the principles and directions in the Constitution and
deprived Dalits their right to elect their representatives,
Krishnasamy alleged adding about 1.5 crore Dalit voters 'felt cheated'
by this draft list.

To discuss the impact of draft list, the party was convening a meeting
of the two major communities, coming under Scheduled Castes, on March
26 at Madurai, in which representatives of nearly 60 organisation are
expected to participate, he said.

On party's plans, in case the Commission failed to redo the
delimitation of constituencies, Krishnasamy said he would seek other
parties' opinion on the future course of action, including a legal
course.
