Sibal flays BSP chief's bid to woo Brahmins Lucknow, April 22: Training its guns on the BSP chief, the Congress today questioned Mayawati's commitment towards Dalits while reminding people of her "anti-Brahmin" utterances earlier. "The Dalit-Brahmin combination of the BSP is nothing but a marriage of compromise which is reflected in Mayawati's changing slogans," Union minister for Science and Technology and senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal told reporters here. Asking the BSP chief to state what she has done for the welfare of the Dalits, he said till only recently she had been "spewing venom" against the upper caste people. Mayawati's love for Brahmins was only aimed at gaining their votes in the ongoing assembly elections, he alleged. Questioning her commitment towards the Dalits, he said the BSP had fielded Dalits only from the reserved seats from where people of other castes could not be fielded. Mr Sibal also referred to the huge expenditure incurred on setting up the sprawling Ambedkar Park in the state capital and said "it has not empowered the Dalits but has definitely empowered Mayawati". n PTI
