Dalit woman brutally beaten in Bihar Posted at Thursday, 03 May 2007 16:05 IST Patna, May 3: In a shocking incident, a middle aged Dalit woman was brutally beaten outside the Biharsharif railway station, Sahara Samay sources said. A tea stall owner brutally rained lathi blows on the woman as GRP jawans watched the scene like idle spectators. The victim, Meena Devi from Arwal, is alleged to be a member of a gang of women thieves. The brutal flogging began no sooner an elderly woman raised a hue and cry that a gang of three women robbed her of a gold chain in the train. Some people at the station chased the three women and caught Meena Devi. The other two managed to escape. One Chander Yadav, who runs a tea stall near the station, immediately started beating the woman. Meena Devi has been forwarded by railway magistrate to Patna and remanded to judicial custody on charge of theft.
