Panel finds caste bias in AIIMS [6 May, 2007 l 0034 hrs ISTlTIMES NEWS NETWORK] NEW DELHI: An inquiry committee headed by UGC chairman Sukhadeo Thorat on Saturday confirmed allegations that SC and ST students were facing caste discrimination in various forms in AIIMS. The government set up the inquiry last year following a report in TOI that SC and ST students, caught in the crossfire of the agitation against Mandal-II, had been segregated in AIIMS hostel. The report suggested an objective test to address "perceived discrimination" in evaluation. "There is sufficient evidence to support the view that the administration of AIIMS... played a proactive role in the organisation of the agitation," it said.
