FM for quota for OBCs Sivaganga (TN), May 28: Reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in higher educational institutions would no way affect chances of students belonging to forward communities, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said. "The interests of forward communities will not be affected and at the same time Scheduled Castes and Dalits will get more opportunities because of the increased intake of students," he said inaugurating the Senduran Polytechnic College at Thirumaiyam near here yesterday. The Centre was taking all efforts to implement the reservation for OBCs as it would give the youth from backward communties access to higher education, he said. Chidambaram said only 11 per cent of the country's youth could enter colleges. "There are people in several states who have been denied the opportuninty to higher education even now," he said. Through reservation, more persons from OBCs could receive higher education, he added. (Agencies)
