A judge's date with the dead 30 May, 2007 l 0015 hrs ISTlPTI A unique situation arose in a Pune local court when a hearse entered its premises and a body was offloaded even as lawyers and onloo-kers looked on with amazement, trying to comprehend the situation. Following the ambulance were about 200 people who took the body of an allegedly murdered man — Nandkumar Waghmare — inside the courtroom of judicial magistrate A M Samant on Monday evening and handed over a memorandum to him, seeking justice. The assembled men, activists of 'Dalit Cobra' organisation, alleged before the startled judge that Waghmare assailants were being protected by the police and sought judicial intervention. 'Dalit Cobra' leader Vivek Chavan removed the body after the magistrate made queries and sent a confidential report to the district judge. Police, which denied any association or connivance with the alleged murderers, said three persons had been arrested under Section 302 (murder) of IPC in this connection.
