Tue, Jul 10 Protest held against merger of SC, ST categories By IE Tuesday July 10, 03:58 AM About 200 persons belonging to the schedule castes and schedule tribes today protested against the policies of the Union Minister of State for Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation, Kumari Selja. Besides burning her effigy, they submitted a memorandum to DC Panchkula Neerja Shekhar at her office in Sector 1, Panchkula. "The SCs and STs are divided into two categories according to the present reservation policy. The Group A has about 42 categories, while Group B has lesser number of categories. Reservations are given on the basis of these. The minister, however, wants the two categories to be clubbed for providing reservations and we are totally against it," said Mohinder Kumar Valmiki. The protesters burned the minister's effigy at the roundabout of sectors 17 and 18 and later submitted a memorandum to the DC. Valmiki said the DC had assured them that she would insure that their sentiments were taken care of.
