A Dalit CM in Telangana: KCR
Updated: 07-10-2007

HYDERABAD: TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao promised that a Dalit
would be Chief Minister and Muslim would be made Deputy Chief Minister
if Telangana became a separate State.

Criticising successive Governments at the Centre and the
State for neglecting Muslims, he said India had the highest number of
unemployed Muslims and it was a pity that no Government thought it fit
to make the required budgetary allocation for them.
Unless they raised their voice, it was unlikely that the
powers-that-be would hear their demand, he said. He was addressing a
gathering dominated by Muslim women staging a dharna to pressure the
Central and State Governments for implementing the Sachar Committee's
recommendations.
The TRS chief said that in 2005-06, out of the State budget
of Rs. 55,000 crore, only Rs. 49 crore, amounting to 0.08 per cent,
was allocated for minority welfare.
In 2006-07, it was 0.10 per cent, with Rs.69 crore out of Rs. 63,000
crore, while in the current fiscal, the State had earmarked Rs. 123
crore out of a total of Rs. 80,996 crore, a mere 0.13 per cent.
Reiterating the demand of implementing the committee's
recommendations in toto, Zahed Ali Khan, Editor of Siasat, said only a
concerted movement could make Governments move.He said only minority
students should be admitted in minority educational
institutions.Managements were doing business using the 'minority' tag
and this needs to be curbed, he said.(EOM)
