20 DPI workers arrested

Coimbatore, Sept 11: Twenty Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) workers were
arrested in the city today on charges of burning an effigy of Hindu
Munnani leader Ramagopalan, in protest against his reported derogatory
remarks on Dalits and minorities.

The activists alleged that Ramagopalan was making unnecesssary remarks
against Dalit, Christians and Muslims, which were hurting the
sentiments of these communities.

He was also making derogatory remarks against DPI General Secretary
Tol Tirumavalavan. Burning of the effigy was to condemn his attitude
towards Dalits, they said. (Agencies)
