Project to be implemented in association with IT Department

Functioning of NGOs to be monitored

Call to increase number of hostels for students

Kalpetta : A project would be implemented to provide job opportunities
for the educated Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) youths in
the district, Chairman of the State Scheduled Caste and Scheduled
Tribe Commission Dr. P.K. Sivanandan has said.

He was addressing a workshop for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled
Tribe promoters in the district organised by the State Scheduled Caste
and Scheduled Tribe Commission at Trident Arcade here on Monday.

This project would be implemented in association with the IT
department. A survey was being conducted for that purpose, he added.

The Commission had noticed that some of the Non Governmental
Organisations (NGOs) which were functioning in the tribal areas were
misusing the tribal funds. So the functioning of the NGOs in tribal
areas would be closely monitored, he said. He also added however that
many of the NGOs were working in the district properly.

As a part of improving the educational programmes in the tribal sector
the number of the tribal hostels should be increased, the tribal
promoters, who participated in the workshop, demanded. Though the
government has been spending crores of rupees for the housing schemes
of the tribes in the district, most of them are forced to continue
their life in the leaking houses, the tribal promoters pointed out.

District Collector P.P Gopi; Members of the Commission Rugmini
Subrahmanian and Shakher Miniodan; Member secretary of the Commission
P.E. Eenos and I.T.P.officer C.K. Pankajakshan participated in the
work shop.

An adalat of the State Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Commission
would be held at Kalpetta on July 9.
