3 officials booked under SC/ST Act TNN, Aug 17, 2010, 01.44am IST KAKINADA: Police registered a case against three senior officials under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for allegedly abusing the public representatives and villagers of Devipatnam mandal in the name of their caste. Devipatnam station house officer S Lakshminarayana on Monday said cases were booked against Rampachodavaram revenue divisional officer M Jyothi, Devipatnam tehsildar P Rammurthy and special officer for floods Y Narasimha Rao. Rampachodavaram DSP Ch Harshavardhana Rao would inquire into the matter. The officials would be arrested after the inquiry, a police official said. Devipatnam MPTC member K Subbayamma, mandal praja parishad vice-chairman D Babu Rao, Indukuru MPTC member M Veera Venkata Satyanarayana and Indukuru sarpanch T Bulli Dora lodged a complaint with the police alleging that the officials had abused them when they questioned about discrimination in flood assistance. They alleged that the officials scolded the villagers when they asked for flood assistance. Some women of Toyyeru village in Devipatnam mandal also lodged a complaint that the officials had also abused them in the name of their caste.
