Prime Minister Helen Clark says, "Judge Satyanand will bring many personal strengths to the role, including a broad knowledge of the workings of government and the law, as well as a deep appreciation of the different groups and communities which make up contemporary New Zealand." Welcoming his appointment, Pansy Wong, New Zealand's first Asian MP, said, "Obviously hes a man who has extensive experience in judicial and quasi-judicial roles which make him an ideal candidate, but the fact that he is of Asian origin is an added dimension." The Global Indian joins the Indian community in congratulating Satyanand who will be sworn in as Governor-General after Dame Silvia Cartwright, the outgoing governor-general, will complete her term on 4 August.
