India is worst place to open a cyber cafe Media Release Jun. 17, 2007 Increasing strictures imposed by government on cyber cafes in the country compounded by low returns on investment is resulting in the owners shutting down their operations within three years of commencement. "The operators are gripped with fear psychosis due to increased strictures. For every social ill starting from pornography, terrorism to adverse web content, the government comes down heavily on cyber cafes. This has shaken their confidence," Association of Public ICT Tools Access Provider (APIAP) President Ashish Saboo told. Moreover, the returns are low in this business. So discouraged entrepreneurs are shutting shops within three years of starting, Saboo said. "We don''t have any control over online content floated across the world. Nor can we identify a terrorist as 80 per cent of the users are from within the neighbourhood," he said.
