The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) has taken note of a few
serious measures to ensure transparent and smooth function of the
broadcasting industry in the country meeting the demands and
requirements of the society.

Post a meeting of the Board of Directors of IBF on July 9, the apex
body representing all the leading broadcasters in India announced the
registration of the new television ratings agency, Broadcast Audience
Research Council (BARC) as a not for profit body under Section 25 of
the Companies Act.

Back in March this year the Ministry and IBF resurfaced the pans of
formulation of BARC to support and introduce a transparent TV rating
system in the country.

BARC set to gain moementum soon; to sort concern of TV rating

Following this, with three months of efforts, the broadcasters and
advertisers have together created the BARC wherein IBF and the Indian
Society of Advertisers share a partnership in 60:40 ratio.

BARC would be measuring across all the platforms - cable TV, DTH,
IPTV, Mobile TV, etc. The agency would be appointing specialized
individual vendors to conduct the audience research. BARC would be
operated by full-time technical professionals who possess immense
knowledge to provide effective and efficient outcome.

Though it might take some time for BARC to become a fully operational
agency, yet, the formation marks a great leap for the broadcasting
industry of the country indeed in terms of the much questioned rating
system by general audience, politicians, and people from the industry
itself. BARC might be able to stop the fingers being pointed towards
these irregularities in the TV rating system of India!
