Dear All, A few things I would like to share, 1... Although I dislike most customs prevailing in my particular society; there is one, which I believe, needs to be promoted all over the world .i.e. Respecting my superiors, not just on the merit of wider experience and knowledge, but also on account of age...which means that I hold all memebers in this group in utmost respect, especially those older then me. Because I have a long way to go, and as one friend so kindly put it, I am "someone who is here to improve her craft"; therefore those (whom I see as) superior to myself in art and worldly knowledge, are going to be my guides...
2..."Politeness", or in other words, "manners", have always been and always will be, a proof of man's cultivated mind. No one can call oneself civilized, while displaying uncouth behaviour...One of the dilemmas of current times is a horrifying disdain of manners and in particular, politeness, among the more recent generation...I don't hold with this New World Order, it is capable of producing only ugliness. And manners for poets, whose aesthetics are rather sensitive, are vital; and someone who cannot learn to behave, ought to leave the field of poetry and enter the arena of Wrestling Federation... The conclusion of this boring tirade is simply this : Mutual politeness is not "mutual Flattery", its just a nice way of saying things... 3...And for a poet, any poet, his creation is without doubt a "sacred text". Suggestions are always welcome, but only if they are presented nicely, i.e. like a sugar-coated aspirin. Then it will serve its purpose without being a nuisance. No "creative growth" is possible otherwise, only a "verbal duel" is. 4..."Lastly, can we have some poems on the poet's ego?"...hmm, well I do have a poem, but I doubt if it will qualify as one for a poet's ego. It more of a feminist's ego. This time I am giving a foot note, hopefully to prevent further avenging avalanches! Here it is... A POINT OF VIEW They say I'm a flower, "a pretty pretty flower", That I must be kept daintily, Like a flower should... In a delicate Vase, To adorn the drawing room table top. Humiliating! I'd rather be a crow than a flower! Atleast he can fly And fight for his right, And present his views, When he wants to talk... Even if it be CROWING! Farah(1998) (written in a lot of frustration after a visit from my In-Laws) Sugar-coated aspirins are most welcome, wrestlers are not! ------------------------ Yahoo!
