So the DBA has a cronjob that puts the DB (Oracle) into hot backup
mode, takes a snapshot of all affected filesystems (i.e. log +
datafile + binary) and then releases the database.

Oracle lives in its own zone and the DBA gets root to the zone.  The 2
ZFS datasets from 2 pools are datasets imported into the zone.
