lucky my zfs file system was on c0d1 slice 5.
zpool configuration information is part of the on-disk data.
It is not part of a disk label. This is a big win over SVM, for
example. Details can be found on the On-Disk Specification at
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/docs/
