Hi ZFS gods,
I have a x4500 I wish to upgrade from a SVM UFS Sol 10u5 to a ZFS
rpool 10u6 or Opensolaris.
Since I know (via backing up my sharetab) what shares I need to have
(all nfs share - no cifs on this 4500 - YAY) and have organised
downtime for this server, would it be easier for me to go to Solaris
10u6 (or opensolaris) by just installing from scratch and re-importing
the ZPOOL (of course after exporting it before installing the 'new'
os) rather then using luupdate. Then appropriately upgrading the pool
to the version to match the OS I choose. I am considering Opensolaris
as I see Sun now do maintenance for 2008.11. I do have OS 2008.11
running on another x4500 due to the requirement of CIFS shares
integrated with our AD and apart from a few little bugs is running
great.
Please let me know your thoughts, I wish to do this 'upgrade' before
the new year. Happy Holidays! Enjoy Xmas ... hope someone is around
that has done something like this before, in theory I guess it should
work, but I have terabytes of data I cannot loose / don't want to
restore from tape.
Thanks,
