I did notice the findroot command, but I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to Grub.

I have to agree with a previous poster in that I'd rather use fdisk and partition, than the fmthard command. In general I have problems reading the man pages because they are a documentation of the commands and their options; as a beginner I can't understand them ... which is why forums like this are a life saver for people like me.
