Required skills: *Position Description (Prime Responsibilities, Specific Duties) for HP-UX / Linux Admin position**:* As a member of the UNIX Server Management Team, this individual will be responsible for providing and overseeing 24x7 support of the UNIX infrastructure within all Biogen locations as well as providing eyes & hands support for other technology areas, such as backup, storage etc., on an as needed basis. As required, this individual will be responsible for participating on teams to implement new infrastructure technologies and Global Technology Services Management projects. The System Administrator's role is to ensure the stable operation of the UNIX infrastructure systems and network connections. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining/ administering and optimizing UNIX servers and related components. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve systems issues This person will also be the technical liaison with the Engineering and Applications teams groups for mission critical, enterprise systems and provide UNIX systems support to cross-functional project teams in a technology intensive environment Primary responsibilities: Rack, network, OS, configure, harden Linux, HPUX and Solaris servers according to standards. Provide on-going administration of Unix/Linux systems. Identify repetitive tasks and automate them. Test and install OS and 3rd-party patches and updates. Participate in 24 x 7 on call duties (on a rotation schedule). Document: install/configuration guides; environment guides; operations guides; and processes and procedures for troubleshooting and system management. Hold meetings with engineers, architects and other project stakeholders to gather requirements for system provisioning, upgrade and enhancement projects. Respond to customer issues in a professional and timely manner. Ability to provide operations support for the Biogen Idec UNIX environment on a global basis. *Qualifications Required* High level of ability supporting various flavors of Linux , HPUX systems. Knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols HP Enterprise Servers. Shell or Perl programming experience *Qualifications Preferred / Knowledge in: * San and NAS systems Backup management Integration of UNIX and Windows operating systems and services (i.e. LDAP / Active Directory, filesharing).
