After much pondering, Jim Cobabe favored us with:

the revered social rituals of child support or alimony payments.  These
blessings of our enlightened welfare state are as popular and common as
credit cards.  Indeed, they constitute a significant segment of the
Clinton legacy.  In grooming his appeal to the female voters, Clinton
vowed on many occasions to track down "deadbeat dads".  "We will find
you," he threatened.  I feared that my criminal profile would show up in
post offices, or on the FBI most wanted list.

In this country women are paid to leave their husbands. At least that is my take on the alimony, child support, child custody situation. --JWR
