Does anyone know if any of these projects are considering the G3 HIG?
Most of them using GTK2 are currently ported to GTK3 first like Gimp for

Inkscape in experimental stage. In addition Gnome 3 HIG guideline is

 Hello designers and ambassadors!

A lot of people asked recently for a functioning Fedora event system.
This event system should replace the wiki pages we currently use to manage
events.
I think we should implement this, because this will have many benefits
for us (and the ability to show the users nearby events on their homepage
is a great plus)

What I imagine a perfect event system including is:
Swag budget management for ambassadors (instead of trac tickets)
Exact time, date, map and any other special arrival instructions
A free form text field for event information
A list of Fedorian attendees of the event (every Fedorian should be able
to add himself as an atendee)
Optional registration (in case the event is organized by the Fedora
community and not just a random event Fedora has a booth/stand at)
Ability to attach event reports to the event page after the event is over
RSS feeds for events filtered by area
Tags/Categories (so it'll be easy to search events by type and field of
interest)
Email notifications for events in your area that you can sign up for
That's just what I can come up with now. What else would you like to see
in such an event system?
Does anyone want to start designing it (with mockups and everything)?
Does anyone have the time to implement such system?

Such event system will not only help ambassadors to organize events
better — it'll also help users to find events with Fedora presence in them,
which will surely help them become a part of the community and sooner or
later become contributors :)

Of course you have to know the IP address of the machine, that could be
a tricky part when using DHCP. If you can use a static IP address, add
'ip=IP_ADDRESS' to the command line options. And also don't forget to
add 'root@' to your ssh command, if you are connecting as the non-root
user. So something like:

$ ssh root@IP_ADDRESS

This way it works for me with Fedora 17 Beta DVD.

Btw:

Caution! This suffix .desktop bears a risk, because the backup
file with such a file name extension will match a *.desktop wildcard
anywhere in the spec file and/or the build framework. Something like
this has lead to including wrong/duplicate files in a package before.

moment. I request for co-maintainance in order to bring that package up
to date with upstream.

New ETL version needed for synfig update

2012-02-12 Thread Luya Tshimbalanga

Hello,

Upstream synfig has updated ETL to 0.04.14. The new version of synfig
and synfigstudio depend on the recent update of that package. Is it
possible to update it?

Looking at Linpus Linux, a Fedora-based distro, its add/remove software has
some interesting ideas like
disk space. Perhaps it will be a good time to make packagekit more
attractive. Comments are welcome.

Re: [Design-team] GIMP 2.7.x in fedora repos?

2011-10-19 Thread Luya Tshimbalanga
Hi Valent,
Following the success my Gimp 2.7. repo had, the Fedora Gimp
maintainers created repository called Gimp Unstable[1] which I
recommend to provide feedback and bug report to upstream. You can view
full details on mail list[2] about porting Gimp to either rawhide or
testing repo. My repo will still be available until then.

Gimp had been criticized for the lack of CMYK support. While there is
some truth until the full implementation of GEGL, Gimp can export into
CMYK with the use of plugin called Separate+. It is not perfect per se,
separate+ provide excellent tool to properly convert RGB to CMYK.
I was surprised that extension was not included in Fedora repository for
years. Spec file is available [1]
courtesy of OpenMamba should anyone interested to package it for
Fedora Project. Otherwise, I will step to port it.

Great. Let me know if you want to take them over (if Owen doesn't sign the
FPCA) and I'll transfer them over. Otherwise, they'll be orphaned on
Thursday and you can take them then.
I will take them over should Owen not sign FPCA.

Interesting take on installation (similar to OpenSuse) using Gnome 3 as

One problem I noticed is how to add extra users during installation.
Microsoft Windows *cough* has that ability which is lacking on Fedora.

As per the Fedora 15 schedule [1], Fedora 15 Beta RC2 is now available

Installed Fedora 15 Beta RC2 x86_64 from netinstall, NetworkManager keeps
screwing up DHCP from both wired and wireless connection on post installation.
Worse, using ifup em2 will not get online access.
That behaviour did not happen on Alpha version and i686 Fedora 15 Beta based
Gnome 3 Live . Details is available on bug #691663 [*] including the Reatket
wireless hardware. Adam did his best to figure out the issue but that strange
problem left more puzzles than solution. I don't know if other people have

Done.

Every once on a while I try to fill in missing decelarations, but I'm
20 000
miles under the sea lately, so don't count on it short term.
I manually did so you can resume your 20.000 miles under the sea journey. =)
Thanks again.

[Design-team] Initial Anaconda installer mockup

2010-10-25 Thread Luya Tshimbalanga

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I started to work on initial Fedora installer mockup[1]. The concept is
based on openSUSE first screen installer (GRUB) and uses design team
default typefaces: Cantarell for the body and Comfortaa for the title.
Because it is my first time exploring that kind of layout, suggestion
and feedback are greatly welcome.

The idea came after reading Ananconda UX Redesign [1] aiming to bring
more polish to the installer. More mockups will come based on feedback
from UX Redesign.

I like the visual design of these mockups (although I'm not sure that

I was wondering about that case but seeing GRUB from other distributions
show the possibility.
Asking what fonts can be used on Anaconda will be helpful. The current
incarnation feels so legacy.

I think it's fine to work through visual design ideas right now, but we
haven't really begun a usability assessment of Anaconda so I also think
it's a bit too early to start mocking up the UI screen-by-screen.
True. Looking at user issue on Anaconda will be a start as written on
the wiki[1]. During the process I will learn more about usability
assessment on such complex project.

Asking what fonts can be used on Anaconda will be helpful. The current
 incarnation feels so legacy.
So I talked to Peter Jones Chris Lumens in #anaconda, basically:

 - syslinux grub use system bitmap fonts so they can't use arbitrary
 fonts right now
 - anaconda can support any fonts X can support, so Comfortaa/Cantarell
 are possible here

 Hope this helps!

Cool! Thanks Máirín.

Re: Ubuntu 10.10's installer looks rather nice

I installed and played with Ubuntu 10.10 over the weekend (in a VM),
and I have to say that their installer is very smooth indeed. It's
starting to make anaconda look distinctly clunky.

Some of the things it does which are IMHO better:

 - starts disk formatting / copying / installing in parallel
 with asking user questions

 - downloads updates in parallel too

 - uses IP geolocation to guess the user's timezone and keyboard
settings (it's been 100% correct for me each time)

 - suggests a username and hostname based on the user's real name
(Mac OS X's installer also does this -- it's a nice touch)

This is in contrast to anaconda (certainly from the live CD install)
which seems to be a usability no-go area.

Thoughts? Can we switch to their installer?

 Rich.

Looking at the installation and the documentation of Ubuntu 10.10, the
outside looks nice but the functionality is very lacking as pointed out
on many posts. AFAIK, Ubuntu installer does not have the ability to
customize installation for use needs as highlighted and can be only done
offline. I don't know if there are installer from live media that
provide more control about package to install other than extracting the
bundled applications.

What anaconda needs is more refinement and polishing as majority of
function are already in place (has the team solved issue about multiple
boot bug or recognition of other installed distributions).

To answer the question: don't switch to that new installer.

 Hi Luya,
I seam to have problems installin GIMP 2.7.1, look at this:
 # rpm -ivh /home/beta/Downloads/gimp-2.7.1-1.fc13.i686.rpm
 Preparing... ### [100%]

 Any ideas why?

That package is broken on on my fedorapeople.org page. I built a new
one on koji shortly on this address:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=2536167.
I also made a Gimp 2.7 repo for Fedora 14 release
(http://repos.fedorapeople.org/repos/luya/gimp/)

The ability to group layer on this version caused me to use daily. I
personally do not care about single mode, only the tabbing of images is
worth. Hopefully Gimp team will implement a non-destructive made with
the so called adjustment layers and native support of CMYK for printing
process (Krita does a better job) although Separate plugins sorta helps.

As Nicu said, you owe me a beer. :p

This works in Fedora 12 and 13 without any issues, hope you like it.

I tried the GIMP in single windows mode (devel branch, 2.7.1, biuld in
Koji for F13) and did not like it, it wastes too much screen estate
(desktop, 20 wide screen). And in the case of the netbook... there it
 is unusable.
Default layout in single window mode looks terrible on small screen.
Customizing them is the way to go. For example, left side only has
toolbox, the rest are on the right side.
What will be really nice is the inclusion on tabs on multiple mode
similar to Adobe Photoshop (I know it is an outrage here). Hopefully new
Gimp 2.7.x snapshot will come soon.

Thank you! I have completely forgot Gimp has small icons theme. It made
