Bug#510334: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the libgcr410 package
Dear maintainer of libgcr410 and Debian translators, Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the libgcr410 Debian package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation update in the BTS. I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization bug as well as all other pending translations. The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in four days, so I will proceed with the NMU. The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail. The package is currently translated to: cs de es fr it ja nl pt pt_BR ru sv vi Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get ANOTHER mail with the translation to update. Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report against the libgcr410 package so I can incorporate them in the build. The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Monday, May 03, 2010. If you are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS. The POT file is attached to this mail. If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU and send him/her all updates I receive. Otherwise the following will happen (or already has): Thursday, April 22, 2010 : send the first intent to NMU notice to the package maintainer. Bug#578950: [Linphone-developers] bug+patch: Identifies with IP6 to IP4 hosts with dual AAAA/A DNS resource record

Bug#578396: qemu-kvm: After Squeeze reinstall, Studio 9.4.3 (Windows program) no longer works properly
27.04.2010 07:54, Gary Dale wrote: Further to below, I figured I'd try a re-install using virt-manager - something I couldn''t get working earlier. I noticed when I installed virt-manager, it installed a whole raft of software related to the qemu (not qemu-kvm) package. It also seems to be recognizing qemu-kvm, but I can't get Windows XP to install. I'm not sure I understand what you wrote. In any way, it is something not related to the original bugreport, so if it is important for you file a new bug report. Basically, I can connect to qemu (it won't connect to, or even recognize, qemu-kvm - the problem I was having earlier), create a new virtual machine (I have to pre-create the virtual disk file or it will try to create it on my system partition instead of in my home directory), tell it that it's a Windows XP partition then begin the install. Unfortunately, after copying files to the virtual disk, the XP install tries to reboot but can't find a bootable disk. Here, perform the install of windowsXP without using virt-manager, directly with kvm running from command line. Later on you can import the guest disk image into virt-manager and it will work fine. It's a known issue and I don't yet know who's at blame -- virt-manager or kvm. I don't know if you can help out on that issue. But the various extra bits that virt-manager installed made me wonder if there is something in the qemu install (that is not in the qemu-kvm install) that could cause the issue I am having? As far as I know virt-manager is able to work with qemu, qemu-kvm, xen and a few other virt. technologies. Why it decided to install lots of qemu dependencies is beyong me, ask virt-manager folks about that. Again, it is not at all related to the problem at hand. Just a thought. Any ideas? Well, yes. We're getting too far from the initial problem. And the problem itself, as I already pointed out several times, isn't exactly clear either, it might be anything. /mjt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. 27.04.2010 12:08, Alexandre Fayolle wrote: Package: qemu Version: 0.12.3+dfsg-4 Severity: normal Hi, I've created a 30GB disk image with qemu-img using qcow2 format, and I was able to install windows XP on that image using an ISO image (via libvirt). However when booting again the image I get a Disk read error from seabios, either by launching with virsh or manually with qemu. I'm able to boot on a Windows installation CDROM, and to access the repair console, run chkdsk, so the disk image is there and alive. Mayby this is a seabios issue, I'm not sure. It is actually a known issue. I'm not sure if it's virt-manager or qemu (or qemu-kvm which is also affected). Try installing windows without virt-manager, using qemu directly from command line. After install finishes, you will be able to import the guest image into libvirt/virt-manager and it will run there just fine. /mjt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#577661: dspam: should this package be removed?
Hi Kurt, On Mon, Apr 26, 2010 at 06:33:31PM -0400, Kurt B. Kaiser wrote: While the packages do not appear to have received adequate attention in the last year and a half, Julien Valroff has in fact been working diligently to prepare the new upstream release (from January) for upload into experimental. This is the first solid release upstream release in several years. Interesting. My bug filing was bad timing then... :) I would like to request a stay of execution, and suggest the following plan: First, determine which of the uploaders still have an interest in dspam. I think there are currently at least three people who would like to contribute to maintaining official Debian dspam packages. Are you going to pursue this, i.e. check on the other maintainers? Second, continue with the development of the experimental upload. I think Julien is pretty close. Since his work differs considerably from the current package, I think experimental is still warranted. Third, prepare an upload to unstable which takes the current package to 3.6.8-10, fixing the RC issues and bringing it back into policy compliance. I will work on that, if Julien has no objection. Sounds good. Any chance of a time line? Do you think this is something to be done within the next four weeks (and thus to be considered for squeeze)? DSPAM has been a Debian package for many years, and IMO it would be unfortunate to remove it just when upstream finally got straightened out and produced a new stable release. Well, I filed the bug because it seemed noone cared. If you do, all the better! Hauke -- .''`. It shows the crash is at module/core.c (line 1257) // Load in the 4 bytes. movd_m2r(*(unsigned int *) sp, mm1); // crash here, sp out of bound movd_m2r(*(unsigned int *) (sp + 4), mm2); punpcklbw_r2r(mm7, mm1); punpcklbw_r2r(mm7, mm2); I tried to disable MMX in core.c by not #define GCC_MMX at beginning. Then renpy won't crash. However this is not good. Thus I do more investigation. I tried to add a printf(%d,%d,%d\n,px,py,srcpitch); before unsigned char *sp = srcpixels + py * srcpitch + px * 4; (core.c: 1241) And that printf() makes renpy won't crash. WTF. After removing that printf(), I get crashes again. I add printf before movd_m2r() it also works (no crash). But remove that printf will cause the crash. It really confuses me. How to deal with this kind of bugs? I'm using AMD64 CPU (AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 240 Processor) But running i386 system. Please help me on solving this issue. Bug#579355: dhcp3-client: ignores hook script exit_status
Package: dhcp3-client Version: 3.1.3-2 Severity: normal Hi, man dhclient-script says the following about its hooks: If an error occurs during the execution of the script, it can set the exit_status variable to a nonzero value, and /sbin/dhclient-script will exit with that error code immediately after the client script exits. but setting the variable doesn't seem to be enough, I had to explicitly call exit in my hook script to get dhclient-script abort. At least one out of the documentation, my understanding and the implementation must be wrong. But which one? Bug#545031: lxpanel 0.5.5 has a fix for that
Hi, I had the same bug and stumbled upon this bugreport. Since I've solved half of it, I'm sharing the solution. The problem is an lxpanel crash when the window manager dies/restarts. It has been fixed upstream. The corresponding commit can be found in the git repo of lxpanel [1]. I said I had solved half of the problem because openbox still (as of today) doesn't support 24bit color depths. A work-around is to use another vga adapter in qemu (it seems only qemu is using 24bit depths). If you don't, penbox will still exit but at least the panel will stop flickering and the windows won't drift anymore. Bug#579282: warzone2100: new stable upstream version available (2.3.0)
Hi Alexander, since no changes are required to build 2.3 (you only changed the changelog), the maintainer probably does not need any help. He only needs to find some time to check the new package. If he does not upload in the next two weeks you can do a NMU (See [1]) after that time. It would have been better to base your work on the latest upload (which was to experimental). See the news section on [2] to find the latest upload. You missed the change of the maintainers e-mail, the changed recommends and the fixed watch-file. On the *.build-file we can see, that the package is not lintian-clean. Please run lintian -i -I -E --pedantic *.dsc *.deb and fix all problems. If you want to help the maintainer, it would be nice to send a diff between the old and the new debian-dir. I attached a fixed patch... The nice protocol.txt should go to your blog! It will be lost in this bug-report... I don't agree as many people use eduroam or a similar network and this problem has been reported oftenly, also on ubuntu. Hence it's not a special rare use-case. Hi, Not sure if the same problem, but I am also experiencing problems with wireless connection to eduroam. Box is a Toshiba laptop with an intel iwl4965, using iwl4965 module in stable (kernel 2.6.26) and iwlagn in squeeze (kernel 2.6.32). I thought problem was related to the kernel module, but looking at this bug report that may not be the case. I do not have access to that box now and will not have until next week, so I am just adding what I remember from my yesterday's experience with the problem. With squeeze and stable 2.6.26 kernel wireless to eduroam works although with some idle periods and some time to establish connection (and without udev, but that is because old kernels having SYSFS enabled do not work with squeeze udev, something known and hopefully unrelated). Real problems appear when using 2.6.32, then I cannot even establish connection, lots of timeouts. I also see lots of 'Michael MIC failure' lines in wpa* logs. Not sure if this happened before, because wpa* log lines are not prefixed by time. I needed to do some real work with that box, so I connected a wire and enabled eth0 and put this into my TODO list. If I can, I will try to work a bit more on this next week, trying to tune timeouts or trying old wpa_supplicant, in case problem is here instead of in the module itself. Unfortunately there is no other wireless network available there to try. Bug#578726: defaultroute metric, don't replace defaultroutes with different metrics
hi! i beleive this patch is a quite valuable enhancement. apart from the obvious benefits (aka necessity) of being able to use routing metrics, i also found no reasonable way to make sure pppd will add its defaultroute without messing the rest of the routing up. example: ppp0persistent ppp connection, meant as a fallback i.e. with low priority. eth0sometimes connected, probably with a defaultroute. this is to be preferred if available. now if eth0 is already up and has a defaultroute when pppd (configured with defaultroute) is coming up, no default route will be generated by pppd. if eth0 goes down, the fallback won't work. if pppd is configured with replacedefaultroute, it will replace eth0's default route, which is not intended and even breaks routing when ppp0 goes down. handling routing via ip-up will fail in case of a pppd reconnect (e.g. on every suspend/resume cycle), in which case the ip-up simply isn't called when ip comes up, and therefore the routes (which vanished from the routing table when the interface vanished) will not reappear. the above patch also seems to be a solution for this. and while we're at it: as there's no reasonable hook for routing changes (i.e. also working on a pppd reconnect), having an option to configure static routes which are inserted together with the default route could be vital to use pppd for reasonable networking in some cases. regards, Chris -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Context: parsing sort type Note that the man page says --sort=method, not --sort method. If you interpret that literally, it works: ept-cache search --sort=list So the bug here seems to be that --foo bar apparently isn't treated the same as --foo=bar, while it often is by option parsing code (and so users will tend to expect it to be). I don't agree as many people use eduroam or a similar network and this problem has been reported oftenly, also on ubuntu. Hence it's not a special rare use-case. I never said it was a rare case. This simply does not meet the criteria of of a grave bug: makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the accounts of users who use the package http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Developer#severities So this bug makes connecting to a certain type of network, not even fail immediately, but after some amount of time. This software currently fulfills all of my use cases without annoyance. AFAIK, wpasupplicant currently does not delete random data or open gaping holes in the system which may be exploited. You may only use this software to connect to one network, which may make it feel mostly unusable but you must consider all other use cases before selecting the highest severity. On ubuntu it has been suggested that a temporary solution would be to compile wpasupplicant with gnutls. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpasupplicant/+bug/429370 The best place to seek support about this is the hostap mailing list: http://lists.shmoo.com/mailman/listinfo/hostap That's what I did and am waiting for a reply. Bug#579363: partman-lvm: don't allocate all space in guided LVM configuration
Package: partman-lvm Version: 65 Severity: wishlist Hi, this is not exactly a feature request, it's more like a start of a discussion and a maybe-wishlist depending on what people think about that. I use LVM from the debian-installer since quite some time now, and I find it really useful. I definitely love the “guided lvm” and “guided encrypted LVM”, but sometime, after using the box a bit, I find out that the layout wasn't exactly like I needed and I'm short on space on one partition. Fine, LVM is good at that, I can reallocate some space. But, shrinking some VG to reallocate space is not that easy. One needs to shrink one filesystem, then the LV, then grow the needed LV, and then the filesystem. It's not that easy, and I'm not sure this is really the way LVM was intended to be used. It might been easier to not allocate all the space on the hard drive chosen for guided LVM. Only allocate, say 10 or 20G (only if the hard drive is big enough, that said), do a guided layout on that, and keep free extents in the volume group. Then, when one partition starts to fill up, the admin only needs to grow it a little, with the free PE in the VG. What do you think? I have seen the problem of console not showing any messages during a kexec reboot on a few other machines. It is an upstream problem and has something to do with video card not being reset upon kexec reboot. Could you please ensure that this version of kexec-tools gets built for i386? Yes, of course. Build machines take some time to build packages after an upload. i386 version was built this morning and should show up in repo shortly. Thanks, the i386 build turned up at my local mirror a few hours ago. When I tried doing a restart with the official Debian i386 build of kexec, the machine did a hardware restart. I then added a line just after the call to do_stop in /etc/init.d/kexec-load: ls /boot/vmlinuz* Then retried selecting restart from the kdm login menu. Sometimes kexec worked fine and I booted without going to the BIOS start-up and GRUB menu, on other occasions the ls command revealed that the newer /boot/vmlinuz* files were absent and only some files normally hidden underneath the /boot mount-point were visible. So it appears that /boot was sometimes not mounted, even though the message about unmount local file systems appeared much later in the shutdown process. Can you suggest any further debugging ideas? I will assume it is and give a straight answer. The answer is: I am hoping to run the application. FYI, all Glib applications spit information -- warnings, errors, other information out into the terminal regardless of any debug flag. I do not see this as a problem. If you don't see it as a problem, it's probably because you are only ever clicking on icons to open applications, STDOUT is redirected to .xsession-errors or a bitbucket or $somewhere_else, and you assume that everybody does that. However for some users it clearly is a problem. If it wants to write to STDERR to report something exceptional then that's different, but as I said originally, routinely clobbering STDOUT with junk is unacceptable. Banshee does the same, just on a slightly larger scale. And the --debug flag exists to spit out even more information than is already spat out to the terminal. Great. Bug#565539: Reopening #565539 as sash still FTBFS on the kfreebsd buildds
reopen 565539 found 565539 3.7-10 tag 565539 - patch severity 565539 serious kthxbye Hi, I haven't investigated it further, but according to https://buildd.debian.org/pkg.cgi?pkg=sash sash still FTBFS on kfreebsd even though it compiled fine with that patch in January on my kfreebsd box. (I still have the patched 3.7-9 version installed there. :-) I raised the severity to serious as this is definitely RC as kfreebsd is now a release arch. (And it worked before so it's some kind of regression.) I'll have a look at it and possibly come up with a patch later. Bug#557451: terminal: background transparency is broken
Terminal transparency is broken in Gnome too, you can only see the desktop wallpaper, not the windows behind the terminal. http://koti.mbnet.fi/leevi/kuvat/error/terminaltransparency.jpg Tested it with 2 machines + QEMU, same thing everywhere.

Bug#579374: kipi-plugins1.2.0-1 conflicts with gthumb-data =3:2.11.3-1
Package: kipi-plugins Version: 1.1.0-1 Severity: normal Tags: experimental Hi, both kipi-plugins and gthumb-data both provide /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/actions/facebook.png and /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/actions/flickr.png files. NB gthumb-data 3:2.11.3-1 is experimental version. I am currently trying to install 1.2.0-1 version (experimental) to check if the conflict remains but it seems that I've got to upgrade almost all kde-related packages to experimental versions and aptitude don't help the process. I'll post a followup if 1.2.0-1 version conflicts also with gthumb-data 3:2.11.3-1 -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-4-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages kipi-plugins depends on: ii kdebase-runtime 4:4.3.4-2runtime components from the offici ii kdelibs54:4.3.4-3core libraries for all KDE 4 appli ii kdepimlibs5 4:4.3.4-2core libraries for KDE PIM 4 appli ii libc6 2.11-0exp4 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libcv4 2.0.0-4 computer vision library ii libcvaux4 2.0.0-4 computer vision extension library ii libexpat1 2.0.1-7 XML parsing C library - runtime li ii libgcc1 1:4.5.0-2GCC support library ii libgl1-mesa-glx [li 7.7.1-1 A free implementation of the OpenG ii libglib2.0-02.25.1-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libglu1-mesa [libgl 7.7.1-1 The OpenGL utility library (GLU) ii libgpod40.7.2-2+b1 library to read and write songs an ii libgtk2.0-0 2.20.0-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libhighgui4 2.0.0-4 computer vision GUI library ii libice6 2:1.0.6-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b-16.1 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libkdcraw7 4:4.3.4-1+b1 RAW picture decoding C++ library ( ii libkexiv2-7 4:4.3.4-1+b1 Qt like interface for the libexiv2 ii libkipi64:4.3.4-1+b1 library for apps that want to use ii libksane0 4:4.3.4-1+b1 scanner library for KDE 4 (runtime ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0really4.4.0-3 the core library of the Phonon mul ii libpng12-0 1.2.43-1 PNG library - runtime ii libqca2 2.0.2-1 libraries for the Qt Cryptographic ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 D-Bus module ii libqt4-network 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 network module ii libqt4-opengl 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 OpenGL module ii libqt4-svg 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 SVG module ii libqt4-xml 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 XML module ii libqtcore4 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4:4.6.2-4Qt 4 GUI module ii libsm6 2:1.1.1-1X11 Session Management library ii libstdc++6 4.4.3-9 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libtiff43.9.2-3+b1 Tag Image File Format (TIFF) libra ii libx11-62:1.3.3-3X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.5-2X11 authorisation library ii libxdmcp6 1:1.0.3-2X11 Display Manager Control Protoc ii libxext62:1.1.1-3X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxft2 2.1.14-2 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxml2 2.7.7.dfsg-2 GNOME XML library ii libxpm4 1:3.5.8-1X11 pixmap library ii libxrandr2 2:1.3.0-3X11 RandR extension library ii libxslt1.1 1.1.26-3 XSLT processing library - runtime ii phonon 4:4.6.0really4.4.0-3 metapackage for the Phonon multime ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime Versions of packages kipi-plugins recommends: ii imagemagick 7:6.6.0.4-2 image manipulation programs ii konqueror4:4.3.4-1 KDE 4's advanced file manager, web Versions of packages kipi-plugins suggests: ii gallery1.5.10.dfsg-1 a web-based photo album written in ii gimp 2.6.8-3 The GNU Image Manipulation Program ii kmail 4:4.3.4-2 KDE Email client ii vorbis-tools 1.4.0-1 several Ogg Vorbis tools -- no debconf information -- debsums errors found: debsums: changed file /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/actions/facebook.png (from kipi-plugins package) debsums: changed file
Bug#578023: openoffice.org on GNU/kFreeBSD
Our /proc also have the same symlink, so we could just use similar implementation. I will take care about this part. Did you test that? Even with libc0.1 2.10.2-7 it fails the same way for me... Now I am really confused :-( The problem seems be due to combination of chroot and bind/nullfs mount. I do not know how the buildd are configured and whether it works on them using 2.10.2-7. I tried harder to get $ORIGIN working also under combination of chroot and bind/nullfs mount, scheduled for libc0.1 2.10.2-8. I hope it would be sufficient. Petr
